The Garrison Curling Club of Calgary (the "GCC" or the "Club") is accepting applications for an Arena Attendant/Ice Technician for the upcoming season. The GCC is a busy six-sheet curling club located in the southwest Calgary neighborhood of North Glenmore/Garrison Woods. The facility is open seven days per week with leagues running from 9:00am–11:00pm during the week and 9:00am–9:00pm on weekends. In addition to the ice shed, the Club has a lounge and bar as well as a full-service kitchen during the curling season. Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, you will ensure that ice operations run efficiently and safely while maintaining a positive working relationship with members, volunteers, staff and visitors to the GCC.

Term: September 8, 2026 to March 14, 2027
Hourly rate: $18.50
Hours: Evenings and weekends; approximately 16 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Assist with ice installation and in-season floods.
  • Perform daily ice maintenance, including scraping and cleaning the ice surface; mopping, pebbling and nipping the ice surface between draws or as directed; taking down scoreboard numbers between draws; cleaning carpeted surfaces and side walkways in the arena; replenishing tissue boxes; and emptying garbage cans in the arena.
  • When not performing daily ice maintenance duties, assist in general building maintenance, including shovelling snow from the front entrance and accessible ramps/parking spots, changing lights, and tidying the lobby area.
  • Maintain a daily log of activities and work performed.
  • Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (more than 10 lbs and less than 90 lbs).

Skills, Attributes and Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Ice Technician Level 1 and/or Arena Level 1 certification is considered an asset.
  • Current CPR/Basic First Aid qualifications are considered an asset.
  • One or more years' experience working on curling ice is considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 kilos (90 lbs).
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Valid driver's licence.
