Position Summary

We're seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our ice-making team as a Part-Time Curling Ice Technician. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn the specialized craft of curling ice preparation and maintenance while being part of a dynamic sports facility. In this position, you will assist and coordinate with the Head Ice Technician to maintain the curling ice and plant room during the Curling Season. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and removing the curling ice, as well as carrying out tasks assigned by the Head Ice Technician and Curling Director. The overall objective is to ensure that the ice function operates efficiently and effectively. No prior ice-making experience is required, as we provide comprehensive training for the right candidate. Join us in maintaining the perfect playing conditions for this exciting winter sport!


Key Responsibilities


  • Ice Installation

  • Assist with start-up procedures and preparation for Ice Install

  • Assist in performing floor seals and flooding to achieve level ice

  • Assist with measuring curling sheet dimensions according to OCA specifications

  • Assist with installation of hack plates, curling rings, hog lines, and all sheet lines

  • Assist with installation of hack plates, curling rings, hog lines, and all sheet lines


Daily Maintenance


  • Assist with Ice Preparation prior to play and carry out tasks given by the Head Ice Technician

  • Fill in any knee or handprints, chips and cracks in the ice surface

  • Empty out trash receptacles, vacuum walkways and organize club brooms

  • Operate power ice scraper to scrape ice surface

  • Mop entire ice surface and dispose of snow

  • Record ice temperature and humidity levels and adjust when necessary

  • Pebble all sheets with required heads and water temperatures

  • Nip or breakdown pebble prior to play

  • Reset numbers from scoreboards

Mid-Season Maintenance


  • Assist in the removal of rocks from the ice surface and store on walkways

  • Remove and store hacks

  • Once controlled melt has completed, scrape ice and pebble until desired ice shape is achieved

  • Assist the Head Ice Technician in texturing curling rocks for play

End of Season Shutdown


  • Assist with removal and storage of curling rings, hog lines, sheet lines and banners

  • Assist with removal of curling Ice and storage of curling equipment until next season

Office Duties

  • Assist members as necessary

Skills and Requirements


  • Work, 15-20 hours per week on weekdays and weekends

  • Flexible availability to work evenings and weekends

  • Moderate to high level of physical effort - standing in cold temperatures for extended periods of time, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs) on ice, repetitive motions/movement

  • May require standing for extended periods

  • Possible exposure to loud sounds for extended periods of time in the plant room

  • Must have strong attention to detail

  • Must have good teamwork and communication skills

  • Reliable transportation

  • Interest in learning specialized ice-making techniques

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Compensation:

$18.00/hr - $22.00/hr


Location:

1725 Mississauga Rd. (Mississauga Rd. & QEW) (Toronto, Canada Area)

**NOTE: MG&CC is not on a bus route. You must have reliable transportation.
