About World Curling
World Curling is the International Governing Body of curling and wheelchair curling. The media team delivers the media operations at World Curling international championships and promotes the sport globally.
Position Overview
World Curling is seeking an ambitious Media Officer to join our team. The role will focus on institutional communications, media operations and editorial coverage of World Curling events, while maintaining and developing external press relationships.
The World Curling Media Officer will work closely with Members Associations and athletes to promote the Olympic sport of curling and Paralympic sport of wheelchair curling at a global level. The role also requires working with internal stakeholders to promote the activities of World Curling to our international audience and media.
Main Deliverables
- Write and edit a range of content including: website articles, press releases, newsletters, President, Board Director and senior staff remarks
- Work alongside the current team members to increase the visibility and positive perception of the sport globally
- Work with international media for press requests
- Manage media operations for international events
- Become the primary media contact for the World Curling Member Associations
- Pitch and write original feature articles
- Contribute to the social media content and strategy development
- Proactively seek out new and effective ways to communicate
- General communications support to the Head of Communications and Marketing
- Any other duties assigned by the Head of Communications and Marketing
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to write clear, accurate and engaging copy
- A keen eye for detail
- Capable of working to deadlines and balancing multiple tasks at one time
- Thrives in small, multi-cultural teams
- Good command of Microsoft Office programmes
- Experience of working in busy press environments
- 2+ years experience in a related communications role
Desirable:
- Knowledgeable of social media trends and managing a variety of accounts in a professional environment
- Confident using Adobe Creative Suite software
- Passion for sport and an understanding or interest of curling
- Experience with using WordPress
- Experience with using MailChimp or other email marketing tools
