The Peterborough Curling Club (PCC) is now accepting applications for Senior Ice Technician for the 2026/27 season and beyond. This is a salaried position running from September 21, 2026 to April 18, 2027, renewable annually. The PCC is also prepared to consider a Contract for Ice Making Services.

Compensation: $9,000 to $13,000 per sheet, based on experience and qualifications.

Peterborough is known as the heart of the Kawartha Lakes region. The PCC is an active club with over 500 members, scheduling up to 25 weekly draws and hosting a number of annual weekend bonspiels. The club is fully accessible to wheelchair athletes and has one of the largest sections of wheelchair curlers in the province, a successful junior program, and a growing Learn to Curl program.

Reporting to the Ice Director, the Senior Ice Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and removing 6 sheets of curling ice and for operating all ice-making equipment safely and effectively for the entire season, working with a team of part-time ice staff to provide high-quality playing conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 2 Ice Technician Certification or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work with minimum direction
  • Working knowledge of ice plant control systems
  • Experience installing ice on a sand floor
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Physical ability and experience to perform ice making and maintenance activities
  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot ice and ice-making equipment
  • Experience with Munters 300 Dehumidifiers is an asset

Major Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day ice operations ensuring high-quality, safe playing conditions
  • Adhere to all PCC policies and TSSA regulations for safe operation of the ice plant and shed
  • Level the sand floor; lead ice plant start-up/shutdown with the club's consulting engineers; ice painting; install ring and line logos, strings and removable hacks
  • Schedule and implement weekly ice maintenance (scraping, pebbling, nipping) and levelling floods as required
  • Daily equipment maintenance and record keeping; recruit, train and schedule assistant ice staff
  • Report monthly to the Ice Director on the condition of the ice shed, plant and equipment
  • Perform mid-season major ice maintenance over the holiday break
  • End-of-season ice removal and proper storage of rocks, rings, logos and equipment
